Project ‘ПЕРЕРОДЖЕННЯ’ (REBIRTH) manifests the Ukrainian spirit identity and presents a spectacular artwork starting with the idea and finishing with the content creation. The mapping was done in the heart of Ukraine on a 10-storey building of Kyiv City Council during Kyiv Lights Festival in 2019.

It was a challenge to bring together all visual symbols of Ukraine in one significant modern, and meaningful design. Over 50 concepts, 13 designers, hundreds of unique models, and simulations ended up creating this kaleidoscopic and multi-layered mapping content.

MODERN AND
AUTHENTIC
ART DIRECTION

‍

Free man - that's the translation of the word ’Cossack’, which represents the central spiritual symbol of the Ukrainian nation. We chose cossack culture as our main inspirational theme, combined it with the art of ancient Trypillian civilization populating Ukrainian grounds in 3000BC, and “translated” the resulting concept into visual language.

Overall, 62 concepts were drafted, from which we approved 5 key scenes.
These scenes reflected the feelings and esthetics we tried to translate the best.

SCENE
DEVELOPMENT

All this required meticulous work. Detailed modeling and true simulations were necessary for even small details. We “baked” over 10 separate renders for objects! Our tools were The Brush, Maya, Cinema 4D, X Particles, and we used Redshift for the final renders. This entire process took over two months and gave us a solid, authentic, and at the same time modern art solution.

CHARACTERS
DEVELOPMENT

‍

There is a “hero” leading our travel back in time. He is a person who came from the future, but at the same time with strong roots in the past. This is reflected in a character depiction, in which we combined modern accessories with a futuristic but minimal costume with an accent on the `?` symbol.

‍

An equally important role is played by the heroes of the mother-grandmother and the Cossacks. Both have combined the main symbols of the story - strength, mother in its fruitfulness and harmony, and the Cossacks - power and courage.

‍

An important character is the Bandurist, which refers to the creativity of Ukrainians at all times. To highlight that this sense is progressive and modern, we have integrated Budha allusion here.

Our mapping building has some neo-classical forms and is the highest representative body of the city community in Kyiv. We had enough space to create various animations. We concentrated on complex composition to achieve in animation the filling of Puzzle scenes that open the way to the next scene, a deeper level of the story.
